A brief idea about mixer

Allen and Heath Xone 4D Dance Mixer

As i was going through a blog Regarding sounds adjustment i got to see about how to use a mixers. Seeing all the problems that the band goes through while adjusting their sound  i thought of rewriting the article in much easier way so that the bands(upcoming bands) get familiar with it. I'm just summarizing a brief  article set by Markusaurelius in a bit simple way so that it becomes easier for all our readers to understand it.

Before talking about the adjustments, lets know what really a mixer is..

                                              (soundcraft EFX8-channel mixer)

I guess each and every one of us is aware about the mixers. A mixer, in its purest and simplest form, combines or meshes an array of inputs into a few controllable outputs (hence the name, MIXER). It is pretty much universal that mixers will have at least a volume control on the output. The vast majority will have volume or "level" controls on each input, or "channel." A great many still will have a variety of controls on each channel, from gains or trims to EQ and aux'es and buses and PFL's and more don't worry though - I will go through each of these at least briefly..
These are what you will see if you want to "run sound" for a church or venue or record music of bands, etc

There are six steps which i will try to explain in much easier and understandable way.

Firstly i wanna tell you guys about Channels.I guess many of you are aware of channels in mixer. Channels can be said as the input of the sounds directly or from the monitors of the artist performing.  The most important aspect of understanding mixers is understanding the channels. On almost all consoles, the channels are laid out in strips; the signal comes in physically through the back of the device, then passes through that channel's various controls from top to bottom, with the gain or trim at the top and the fader at the bottom. I will go through what each of these steps does in their own, well, steps.
Simply look at one of the11 black circle inputs .(XLR's for microphones and snakes), then follow the column of knobs straight down. This is a channel strip. In the above mixer there are 22 channels.
Mixer constitutes of

Fader:
The function of the Faders (sliders)  are that they are used to adjust the output channel volume level.

Pan:
The function of the Pan Controller is to adjust which instrument should be pan to the left or right hand side.

Gain:
Gain controls and adjust the input volume level.

EQ:
EQ adjust the frequency response of the input modules.

For brief details and idea you can refer article set by Markusaurelius.

Altruistic

Band Page :- https://www.facebook.com/altruistic123?directed_target_id=0
Genre :- Death Core
Check them out :-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzZSqSHdwU0&feature=share

How did the band start?
The band started out with a group of friends who loved playing music together.it was actually created in order to enter the NEPFEST competition.

Talking about the band name what is the meaning of Altruistic and how did the name came?
Altruistic means being unselfish. well every band had a name that meant something brutal or you know referred to some horrific stuffs....but being a metal band we just didn’t want ourselves to limit our ideas to that..so decided to give it a positive meaning..

So you guys are a death core band can you describe the genres DEATHCORE?
Basically death core is a genre that got elements of both death metal and metal core I think we are experimenting with the death core genre and trying to find our own sound in it

Altruistic was formed on early 2011 how was your journey from there to here until present moment?
It’s been a rollercoaster ride.....lots of ups and downs, we had to go through a lot of member changes, well that sucked a lot  lack of gigs but yeah, it’s a struggle, other than that everything has been going good

In present context we are seeing drought of gigs.. So can you say us regarding your new lineup?
Yeah!!! really less gigs going on..that’s tough for us. lineup is pretty much the same...we just got ourselves a new guitar player. we have had a lot of guitar player changes...ha-ha

Ha-ha, Well that’s the main problem fluctuation on members apart from less gigs.. So can you say a little bit about your original End of The War?
End Of The War..hmmm where do I begin... it’s a little complicated to explain..but that was the first ever song created after the first lineup change, the song is about an ancient war and it describes the suffering of people during the war currently we are working on a presequel and a sequel to this song actually it is a song from our storyline series called the WARRIOR WITHIN
and end of war is the 2nd installment to the series
the first part is called I Declare War
while the last part is THE AFTERMATH

You mean its second version?
Yea end of war is the second part in the series that we named warrior within
1st part being I declare war
and the 3rd being the aftermath
its a story line
warrior within pt1-I Declare War
warrior within pt2-End of the war
warrior within pt3-The aftermath

Cool . I want to ask you one question which we generally ask each and every bands. Apart from you guys, which band will come up as a metal deitly?
Well I personally like ANTYESTI ,other than that I think this new band Asphyxiate is great too and yea dying out flames

Ha-ha.. both bands are good now I want to ask you guys How would you define the ups and down an artist has to face especially trying to bring out a genres like metal which our society considers a pain to the ears?
The first problem starts out at home you know playing loud music all the time growing long hair ha-ha . Parents they get up your ass!! Anyways facing all these ups and downs, that’s what gives us experience and being an artist its all about experience and creativity.

Ha-ha yes for sure it’s hard for elders to understand it to some extent..So if I am not wrong a few days back you played The tribute gig to dime as well as promotional gig to M.A.B how was the gig?
The gig went good I must say, went a lot better than expected as we had a recent guitar    layer change for that gig so u know the difficulties a band has to face after a member change took lots of hard work ,ha-ha

Ha-ha for sure it takes time to sink as well. Since you guys are upcoming bands we would like to know whether you guys are well equipped with gags?
Gadgets are like stuffs that u can never get enough of, ha-ha.
I use boss me 25 and an AZALEA guitar. While my bassist uses an Ibanez GSR180 sound gear. the only thing that we lag are cymbals. Man the more u have it the better ha-ha most probably we will be adding and experimenting with more instruments in the future

Ha-ha the more you have the more you need...
Yea that’s human nature...

Well best wishes for that..
Thanks that means a lot
We usually find that the artist and the crowd usually get intoxicated while they perform . They take it as a necessity to perform and to look more aggressive do you think it is a mere excuse or a reality?
Actually it depends on people, cause you are what u think you are.... Well our band performs when we are completely sober . I (Yashashwa) tried playing when intoxicated once..... I messed up badly ha-ha

I guess many bands should read what you guys just said haha..
Naah that’s okay, everyone’s point of view differs...

What do you want to say to the upcoming metal bands in Nepal along with this question I wanna ask what do you want to say to the organizers who may be reading this chat?
For the upcoming metal bands i think all i wanna say is be brave and proud to try something new cause music is what u feel organizers? ummm we need lots of gigs please organize some..that’s the only way how bands will be able to show their talents..also just don’t let the well known bands play give opportunities to the new upcoming bands too..

Well regarding upcoming bands we usually see they are not being paid and are urged to play for free in name of friendship and giving chance what do you wanna say regarding that..As we know artist spend a way lot on practice and on gadgets maintenances. what do you want to say regarding it?
Well that’s a tough one......it would be nice to get paid. I  mean we really do have to spend a lot for practicing and maintenance. But on the other hand if a band is paid for they should be worth paying for also if this turns into a trend bands might stop playing cause of financial reasons which may hamper the music scene.

In gigs we usually see conflicts between bands and sound crews and sometimes even we hear sound crews being abused during gigs what do you say regarding such mishaps?
Its not always the bands fault in this stuff, i mean the work of the sound crew is to help achieve the band the sound that the band requires while performing but in gigs we see that the sound crew doesn’t respond to the band so the conflict arises most of the time such abuse aint good but still they should at least listen to the bands

But it’s up to the bands like" KNOWING YOUR GADGETS" as what there gads sends that is adjusted and send to the output stacks.
Yea it is..but even after the sound that we send out the sound crew dont adjust the output sound as desired..such as drum pedal sounds or the snare sounds.

A few days back in talk with some sound companies they said it’s because lack of communication among band and sound crews as well as lack of Sound engineers do you agree on that ??
Yea i do...that’s what happens most of the time. We need people on the sound crew who are really good at and have lot of knowledge about metal music.

So any new project on the pipeline?
No not really...currently giving full focus on the new guitarist so that we can be like what we were before

Any message to the fans?
Fans? ha-ha...that’s a pretty big word but yea to those who really do support us..thank you and keep supporting we won’t let u down /m\

Any other things you want to say which we didn’t ask?
Saaab nei sodhisakyo yar..aru ta k hunu lol

Anywas thanx for your time..

Interview of Sabin lama (Man behind scene upltftment in Hetauda) Guitarist undefined Human

Before we start our talk, we want to know how did your journey in Metal music started?
My journey started at metal music during school life since 11 years. In my initial days I used to listen metal songs by buying CDs from Footpath and burrowing from seniors from my circle. I used to listen band like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Mega death , Judas Priest, Anthrax, Kreator and many more. In those days I used to tune thrash and heavy metal stuffs. At that time there was no internet in my house So, it was hard for me to find songs as well as albums. Then slowly  albums became available in the market and the CDs used to cost 25 bucks.  Pantera was my first album that I bought. I used to buy CDs from my pocket money. In fact I have stayed hungry for money So, that I can collect my gems whenever and wherever I got there glimpse on market even considering Death core, Djent, Metal core and other Heavy metal albums.

How did the band Undefined Human start?
Many people choose their own genre, in 2000 AD. There was a band in our town “Hetauda” named  Suicide Theory” and were inspired by them. We are also inspired by the Underground Bands of Nepal like Ugrakarma, Cruentus, Jugga, Tamishra, and many more. Listening and observing the Underground Music Act in Nepal , thus it urged us to start a Band. As we all know that the band Suicide Theory shared the stage of first Idles of March done by Ktmrocks with Bands like Ugrakarma & X-Mantra. These bands continued but Suicide Theory dismantled due to some reasons and slowly the Underground Scene faded from Hetauda. So to give life to the sleeping scene we decided to start a band and do re-establish the Metal Scene here in Hetauda. In our initial days of Undefined Human, We Jam with Bishal and Ashish from Suicide Theory (The first death metal band from Hetauda).

Our readers really want to know the true meaning of the undefined human ?
Undefined Human, it means the things that we Human beings cannot define. Like an Animal, Ghost, Alien, Cartoon, Supernatural power and so on. Undefined Human means a person, who looks half like a human and half creature”minatory” Haha.

Can we know the entire lineup of your band?
 Sabin: -      Lead Guitar
Phurwa:-  Drums
Bibek:-      Bass
Yaman: -   X- Bassist
Dipesh: -   Vocals

Which bands influence undefined human?
We were influenced by old school death metal band like, Hypocrisy, Cannibal Corpse, Gore fest, Kataklysim, Mortification, Suffocation, Vital Remain, Deicide and many more.

"THE CONFLICT BETWEEN BANDS AND SOUND CREW" what do you say regarding this?
I want to say that it depends on guitarist to check his gadget, zoom properly. All the band member should act professional to check their own sounds drum, vocalist, bassist, guitarist on their monitor, As the input given by the bands will be processed to the main stacks. The entire member should have knowledge about how to setup sound. We should not blame sound system as they try to arrange what we give. Along with that we should not blame them as they set up as we say, but we should also have the knowledge about it to listen proper sound how much we need.

I salute you as a true metal head since you are the only person in Nepal who attends every gigs in or out of hetauda no matter how far it is whether it’s with your band or alone what do you want to say regarding the event organizers???
Thank you. Actually I don’t consider myself a true Metal Head. It is the title given by my friends as I attend many gig in Kathmandu to see the international metal event happening and many more underground gigs. Many foreign bands Performed in Nepal like Vader , Napalm Death, Textures, Nervecell, Decapitated performing in Nepal. I am pretty excited that Behemoth is coming Nepal and I will attend that gig as well. Not only such event I attend almost each and every gig that occurs in Kathmandu,  Pokhara or Hetauda.

So how far has the Journey of Undefined Human has gone?
We did gig like underground uproar, tribute to slayer, currently we are  preparing for our upcoming event extreme tour 2013. Our next event is on October. Sincerely I want to thank  Vishal vof brother from Wakk Thuu who has helped  and supported us a lot and for motivating us. We were inspired by Vishal Brother to do the indoor gig, it seems pure underground.

Can you say us a bit about Hetaudas underground scene?
Talking about the past there were events but now in this very present time few gigs occurs as the period of insurgency no gigs had occurred. Along with that band splitted and many members went abroad for studies and for work, that was from 2003 to 2009 but since 2010 it’s taking a pace but not in appropriate way as it should be. As we all know that Suicide Theory played with Ugrakarma in 1st ktm rocks gig Ideals of March.

So did any experience in life reflect in your music?
Not much. But I have a experience to share with you. While I was playing in a event I saw a bunch of kids with long hair and wearing some Metal Bands T-shirt and they were just looking at our face while we performing Sepulturas song. Wearing Metal T-shirt, going to events growing long hair doesn’t make one a metal head it seems a bit of fakeness. I want to say something in Nepali  ( Sunchau Bhanae Timro Dress Up Le Farak Pardaina ).

How would you define the ups and down that artist have to face especially trying to bring out the gerne like metal which our society considers noise?
Firstly metal is for passion not Fashion. Metal music is not for society we don’t damn care of the society what they say. It’s our passion (Jole j vanepani bal vaena). I don’t give a shit. Some people say me why do you grow hair and say our vocalist that why are you barking like a dog, shouting and yelling is that a song and many more, But we don’t care METAL MUSIC IS NOT FOR SOCIETY ITS FOR OUR PASSION.  And especially for the Police Why do you guys assume that Metal music is violent, See the mainstream event. Stop acting like a retard and interrupting when Foreign bands play here as well. For these people they should also know that tourism industries also increase due to such events. I guess society should change their concept regarding metal genre.

Apart from Undefined Human which band do you think will rise up on metal delay?
There are many bands in Nepal I can’t say that which band will rise up in metal Genre as all bands are giving their best and I personally believe that bands who are really serious and consistent on members will definitely rise. There are many bands on my list so can’t express here as well hahahahha...

Any Eps or new stuffs in pipeline?
We don’t have any eps and new stuff. We are composing a song for our extreme tour 2013 and after this gig we will be printing our T-shirt. About Ep I don’t think we have reached that level now.

Now Sabin I want to ask, do you have any message to the fans?
Please guys support the real scene don’t act like a poser and support the band by buying their T-shirt , eps, and CDs. Support Nepali band to built up our own scene. Say no to piracy...Buy bands merch such as cds t shirt . Attend the gigs.Fb ma page kholera matra hunna just buy merchs as well as bands cds if you really wanna support them.Nobody come and does things for you . Do it yourself to built up your own scene. If u depend upon other for program go and play your instrument in bathroom, toilet, house. (arule gardinxa ki vanera basyo vani) you can’t never succeed and tyetikae marxau hahahaha……

Lastly, a space for you anything we SNRMB have forgotten to ask you can tell us here?
Yes, in fact i forgot to say some more things. No matter how how hard it is to make a band in this scene i wanna say metal music is in my blood. We never depend on the sponsors for an event.cause we believe a true metal lovers can invest themselves and organize a gig like we do here in Hetauda .We never play for money and we don't wanna be a "ROCKSTAR" OR "COCKSTAR " We say that don't depend on others so that you get platform to play its just a time waste. If you think Like that just go and play in some jatra, Business fare, toilet, kitchen or your bedroom cause we never expect that to influence on metal music. Its you who should work on to develop your scene and then only it will evolve. We did many gigs here without sponsors in fact on our own expenses. Support the scene support true metal. Jay Metal \m/.
