Interview with France based Brutal Death Metal Band Devour the Fetus's frontman Renan

Formed in August 2011, the real band activity started in February 2012. The band has been offered the opportunity to play a gig, provided that they could write enough songs to last 30 minutes on stage. The challenge was fulfilled and the band continued on their pace. They recorded their 3-tracks-EP “Babynception” in 2012 and they composed enough song to record an album in July 2013 : “Cook’n’Roll”. The band will soon be working for their new release. Greetings Renan before we start we would like to know about the updates of the French underground scene?

Hey, the French underground scene is really active, even we don't have lot of big bands, we have awesome bands. The actual brutal scene, for me, is represented by Ad Patres, Darkall Slaves, Disgraseed, most grind but very nice too by Unsu, Department of correction and of course Benighted, Inhumate, Blockheads, and Kronos (they came back \m/). These actors are really brutal and active. Bands are cool but shows too, these last years we have increasingly festivals, Hellfest and Motocultor fest show us how to do! So underground scene is growing up in France, it's really nice!

Good to know about that. Devouring the fetus, how did the journey start tell us about it?

With Zyigh (guitarist) we spoke about foods and music, after one night to speak about cooking and delicious recipes, i ask : "let's start a breeetalll band", he answered to me : "no", and two days after, he called me back to say "yes", thus Devour The Fetus was born !

So if i am not wrong you guys played in the French death fest on the last day how is the rehersal going for the fest.

It's a German fest. It was really cool. Rehearsal were great and we had a mini tour with katalepsy before (4 shows), so we were ready to breeeee !

We hope to hear more about your upcoming gig. Talking about Devour the fetus Maternal Cheese cake, Putrefying Tumor Placentomized, Anti - wrinkle fetus cream are some of your tracks that i tune quite often Renan we would like to know if any new stuffs in production?

For now we have 2 new songs, most groovy and brutal. We are working for the next album and we are really exciting to play it on stage!

Hoping to hear about your new tour dates, coming beyond Devour the fetus tell us how did your journey begin?

My first cd was "Roots" from Sepultura. There is 15 years ago (already haha). After that i went deeper in brutality with Marduk / Cannibal Corpse, and after Krisiun, Deicide and lot of brutal bands. few year after i discovered Devourment / Origin and my future was obvious. I was on earth to breeeeeee That my entry in the metal world. I played in a band, called Absinthebolik, death / black metal, we split out there is three years ago and i created Devour The Fetus to be more brutal and groovy, as bands is listened.

You guys are from the country which has a healthy metal scene, is it possible for band to sustain their life through music especially metal?

No way to live with your music (metal) in France. Only few bands can do it, like Gojira, Loudblast and others big bands (or i don't know). If you want money, stop to play metal and play pop music or other kind of mainstream stuff. We play because we love it. As we say, we don't win money we try to lose as less as possible !

Well that’s for sure metal for passion. So Renan any message to the fans?

Thanks for your support, thanks to follow us, keeping sharing and keeping going at shows, it is through this that we can exist \m/ Cheers, breeeee and eat onions !

So it is a bit off track question Renan we would like to know what do you guys do apart from Devour the fetus.

Virgile (drummer) and me are web developer, and Virgile do something more, but i never know what haha, Frankette (bass) studied robotic engineering, Cyril (guitar) the sound engineering and Zyigh (guitarist) is a cook ! At least one work with onions and carrots, but i'm not sure with fetus. I love to cook too but only for me and friends, it's not my work.

Haha i think i must meet Zyigh then i am always hungry. Well jokes apart coming back to the band recently a review of your album Cook 'n Roll was done by Sick reviews and reviewed it with 8 out of 10 i am quite sure this review has increase your moral and to come with much sick albums in coming future.

Of course, come on France, we will cook for you (trust us it's ever good if you like fet...) haha. We have few reviews for now; from Sick review and some others French web zines (thrashcore, metal nightfall...). All reviews we had are good; it's really cool to have good feedback's. It means we are on the good way, and we must to keep going more brutal and groovy. We are hurry to release the next full length (some songs are already composed). But for now we are focus to the promotion of "Cook'n Roll”!

So by when can we expect the new album of Devour the fetus?

At the end of 2015 or early 2016 i guess and hope!

Almost at the end now tell us on your view the French bands that are to be heard apart from Devour the fetus?

We have lot of good bands! I think to our bros from Darkall Slaves, Disgraseed, Whisper Of Death, Ad Patres, Flying Shit Machine and some more famous as Benighted, Kronos. Our scene rocks but deserve to be most famous!
