Enmachined a thrash metal band from Bangladesh

SNRMB Interview with Imtiaz Ahmed Anil (Enmachined)
BY: Nabil Abaddon

Before we proceed we will like to thank our fellow mate Nabil Abaddon (G.M.A zine contributor) for helping us by interviewing Enmachined. TO know much about them you can go through there page in Facebook..

Abaddon: Hey Anil! Welcome to SNRMB. How is it going with Enmachined?
Anil: It’s going fine brother. We are currently working on our next release and will probably go to the recording studio real soon.

Abaddon: Before we start off on a full swing, would you like to tell our readers about how Enmachined was formed and how the name came about?
Anil: Enmachined was formed in the early days of 2011. Some of us had played in different bands before, but Enmachined sounded real deal haha! As for the naming of the group, we are big fan of old school science fiction movies. Our vocalist Abir came up with the name. We felt that it fits perfectly with our essence of music, and so we decided to keep it. That’s the story behind the band name.

Abaddon: You guys released a demo called “Thrash Assault” last year via Salute Records, Sweden. How have been the public response and reviews so far?
Anil: It’s been immense! I never expected that we would get reviewed by zines from Asia, Europe, and South America and even from North American regions. I am definitely amazed. It’s great that metal heads worldwide appreciate our music, and that means a lot for us.

Abaddon: Well Anil we would very much like to know about the scene in Bangladesh. Hows it over there?
Anil: Metal music in our country had ups and downs in the past but slowly now it is growing and becoming stronger day by day. We have a lot of killer Bands now here, each with their unique approach, and the metal fan base is growing and becoming much rowdier as we speak, haha. The number of quality shows has definitely increased and this is a good sign. Even metal shows are now being held in the regional districts of our country.

Abaddon: Is it very tough to do this sort of music which is considered a pain in the ears by the society? Can anybody live solely on music in Bangladesh?
Anil: We all live in a democratic nation, so it’s not that tough actually. As for the later inquiry, it’s not possible for a musician to live solely on music in our country. This is due to the lack of concerts and the small crowd attendance in gigs, but this situation is sure to change in the near future.

Abaddon: Coming back to the band, Enmachined has not appeared much on stage in last 1 year. What’s going on with you chaps?
Anil: As I have said earlier, we are now busy working on our songs, so we took a pause in playing in live gigs for some time. If we can make the time in this schedule, definitely we will play live. Though we did a gig in Khulna city in February and the response was massive.

Abaddon: I personally find the song “Loggerhead” very much “bone crushing”(As Enmachined’s tagline goes by haha). The demo comprised of 3 songs, right? How long did it take to make these three songs? And why a demo, why not an EP?
Anil: Yes brother the demo consist these 3 songs, “Loggerhead”, “Thrash Assault” and “Piranha” respectively. It took three months for us to complete the demo. Actually we did not have much time and technical efficiency for a studio release, so that had to be a demo to be our first release.

Abaddon: Tell me brother, how did you get into Metal music? And who do you take your influences or inspirations from?
Anil: When I was a little kid, my elder brother used to play guitar and blast Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Metallica in the car and in his cd player. I remember Hallowed Be Thy Name was the first ever metal song that I heard and the intro of the song really got me into metal. My elder brother had a very vital role in getting me into metal.

Abaddon: How long have you been playing guitar?
Anil: Well, as I said my elder brother used to play guitar and I always used to stay around him when he was practicing or covering a song. One day he handed over the guitar to me and taught me a few tunes. I guess it was in 1997 when I first learned to play some tunes from some movies. I used to play those tunes around my family members and used to amaze them. Then my father bought me my first guitar in 2001 and since then I learned to play chords all by myself and took guitar playing more seriously.

Abaddon: Well, Enmachined is going to be a part of this online compilation album called Raktapyas II- Glory of Death along with Nervecell, Hellwitch, Gehennah, Ugrakarma, Binaash, Dying Out Flame, Homicide, Abominable Carnivore etc. What do you have to say about that?
Anil: We are excited to be a part of this online compilation, many killer bands are in this compilation, and we will be glad to share the stage with them as well.

Abaddon: So we are almost at the end of the interview. Would you like to tell us what’s in the future plans of Enmachined? Any EP or full length, overseas tours, and when is the next gig Enmachined going to perform?
Anil: Actually we have a lot of tasks in hand, as you know already; we are working on our songs now. An overseas tour sounds killer. And as for next gig we are going to play live at East Bengal Onslaught in Dhaka, it’s going to be on the 26th of April.

Abaddon: Brother it was wonderful talking with you. Thank you so much for giving us your time. Much appreciated any last words for the fans and followers? The space is all yours…
Anil: Keep listening to metal; never give in to any trend because ultimately we will all prevail, haha. Hails!
