So say us something about Caelestis?
Hello everybody thanks to Snrmb Nepal for this opportunity to get Caelestis more known. Our project was born as a one-man band in 2010, back when Cataldo Cappiello produced electronic/new age music for his own satisfaction. His sound evolved more and more until, in 2012, he released "Nel Suo Perduto Nimbo", full length of industrial/black metal sound featuring singer Vera Clinco on one track, titled "Dove La Luce". Vera's voice on the song has been enjoyed so much, that she and Cataldo decided to collaborate steadily for the future. The Caelestis project became a true band when drummer Flavio Staiano joined our line-up: the result is Heliocardio, our latest effort. Our sound changed dramatically: we now produce a mix of genres that we prefer to call "alternative", since it does not really resemble any other sound we know.

"Caelestis" what does the name mean?
As it is probably deducible, Caelestis is a Latin word which literally means 'coming from the sky'. We actually interpret it in a 'spiritual way': we don't really come from the sky but we try to search for what's ideally beyond it with our music. The sky can be felt and perceived in different ways: it can be felt like a sort of huge, suffocating cloak (as expressed in 'Nel Suo Perduto Nimbo''s lyrics) or like an ethereal, reassuring embrace or maybe a door to open (as expressed in Heliocardio's lyrics).

So can you notify us about Italian metal scene?
Unfortunately here in Italy Metal music doesn't get the attention it really deserves. It has got its own audience of course, but commonly people don't really stop to have a listen and to give it a real chance as music genre. That's actually a pity because the Italian Metal scene is much more active than how people could expect, not just talking about the already well-known bands but also and especially about the Underground scene, which is alive and active. A material example is the Underground Metal Alliance, an organization of which we're part so as many other valid metal bands coming from all over the country.

Current Lineup of Caelestis?
To bring our music on stage, we absolutely need some other member and that's why we're still looking for them and renovating the line-up lately. Our drummer Flavio has unfortunately left for private reasons but we already have some clues about some other really good candidate. Same is for the bass player. We've then found a keyboard player and we're thinking of getting a second guitarist in the future but we prefer keeping the 'classical line-up' + keyboard/effects for now.

So who are your influences?
As far as we arrived our main music influences are Alcest, Wolves in the throne room, and Heretoir for the instrumental parts. We love the fullness of the harmonies, and the walls of sound that generate so deep feelings. Vocals are more in a Mira and "new Nightwish" way, but are often linked to the style and the sound of Dolores O'Riordan's voice, from The Cranberries. Vera also considers Amy Lee from Evanescence as a great vocal role model and an inspiration. Anyway, these bands influence us in a limited way, since we tried to develop a personal sound, which often takes inspiration from its experimental past.

So how many gigs have you guys played so far?
Since this has always been a one-man project until "Heliocardio", we are still in search of a base line-up to play live. We are going to add a keyboard player and a bass player to our band. For now rehearsals are going pretty well and we are going to hit the road in the first months of 2014. So, for now we haven't got any news, but we'll sweep Italy really soon.

How do you get respond about Caelestis when you guys say you have a lady in an alternative/progressive band?
So far we've actually understood that our music is either loved or hated, anything in between mainly and this is valid for Vera's presence and work in the band as well. Her voice is generally either greatly appreciated or judged as not suitable for a project like ours but we knew and we were prepared to run the risk of being misunderstood. We just keep holding on, because we believe in our way.

So any message to the fans out there?
All we want to say is "thank you" for listening, following, supporting us: we play to develop and communicate emotions. If these emotions are delivered and even slightly change a minute, a day, or the life of someone, then our mission here is complete, and we could say we are satisfied. So what we ask to our fans (new and less new) is: Let us know! Follow us on twitter, or like our facebook page and write us something. Your experience with Caelestis is what makes us grow.

Any message to fellow bands from Raktapyas?
We're really pleased and honored of being part of this amazing project/compilation together with so many bands coming from all over the world! It's great to see there are still many people creating and supporting in their own way such a special and incredible form of art as the music is, no matter how popular it can get in the end. We know that, as we said, the biggest satisfaction knows that our music is listened by people who someway love it, feel it, and live it. Therefore we just want to wish good luck to everyone who's trying to be heard like our Raktapyas mates, like us. Keep up the good work.

So we are almost at the end. Your dream lineup for a concert and 5 rock/metal album one should have?

Cataldo: An Alcest concert supported by Cynic and Germ would be the ultimate mind-blowing experience. I just love these artists. As for the 5 metal albums one should have, I prefer sticking to classics: Death - Symbolic Cynic - Focus Nargaroth - Black Metal Ist Krieg Alcest - Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde Amesoeurs - Amesoeurs
Vera: As I really listen to every kind of music, I have many favourite artists who are really different from each other and it's not that easy for me to choose just a few of them for my 'dream lineup'. Anyway my favorite music genres are post-rock, progressive metal, psychedelic rock, ambient, classical music and I also appreciate shoegaze, post-punk and post-metal productions a lot... so I guess my ideal concert would be sort of a festival including artists as Hammock, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Opeth, Pink Floyd, Agalloch, Helios, Anathema, Amesoeurs...and then pianists as Yiruma, Ludovico Einaudi, Brian Crain and Joe Hisaishi. I'd totally freak out! To be honest, I also like something 'heavier' as Lamb Of God and Foo Fighters and 'lighter' as Coldplay or even Lady Gaga... as I said, I really have no limits about music. Then talking about the albums, trying to list just five of them... I'd suggest: Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon (so as Ummagumma or Atom Heart Mother; their experimental sound is just great.) Radio head - Ok Computer Hammock - Departure Songs Sigur Ros - Sigur Ros Agalloch - Pale Folklore

Lastly we would like to ask if anything we SNRMB team have forgotten to ask?
We could tell you about the future of the project. Is that ok?

Sure..
Talking about the future of this project, we are currently in the final phase of our gathering of nearby musicians to create an efficient line-up to play live gigs. We are going to hit our neighboring towns and cities in early 2014, but nothing denies us to get out of Italy sooner or later. We are also writing some new material, that we will hopefully release in the first half of 2014. The songwriting of new music is trying to shape on the style of "Heliocardio", since its sound was really appreciated by people: but at the same time, we are assuring ourselves to insert new ideas and keep the listening fresh and captivating. We are going to drop some massive bombs of news in some months, so we ask our fans and followers to stay tuned.
