Metal Dashara - I

Its good to see that gigs are happening beyond the 3 cities Kathmandu, Pokhara and Hetauda, A week back Devdaha fest occurred in Khairaeni, Bhairawa featuring bands like Narsamhaar, Wakk Thuu which was a success. This Saturday i.e in 26th Sept 2 gigs are happening one in Hetauda i.e SLAUGHTER HOUSE DEATH FEST -II and the other one in Biratnagar i.e Metal Dashara -I. We will be talking about the gig in Biratnagar.

First of all a big round of applaud to  Metal freaks Of BRT-\m/ team for coming up with a gig in a place where the entire place is influence by Bhojpuri and Bollywood music. Personally i feel very good to know that youngsters from there are working hard to create a scene back there in Biratnagar as i have some personal relation with that city as well.  We are already aware of the situation there in east as many things were expressed to us by Agyat and Sin Without Cease during there interview.

As per the information we got Dying Out Flame will not be able to play in the gig due to some unavoidable conditions. Resulting Agyat, Crude Fixation and Sin without Cease will only be playing in the gig. There is a chance of including one local hard Rock band on the opening slot. As per the my talk with their representative it is hard for me to say that it is going to be there last gig of Agyat as they are officially splitting.

We had a short talk with Agyat and Sin Without Cease a few months do check them out and know much about them as well as the scene back there in East Nepal.

Every time i get to know about gigs happening in Hetauda i get quite excited maybe because Suicide Theory  (One of the pioneering Death Metal band from Nepal who played in the 1st edition of Ktmrocks gigs IOM 12 years ago along with  Ugrakarma and X- Mantra. They usually covered Cannibal Corpse ) belongs to this city or maybe we have seen the creation of a systematic scene by the hard-work of  the fellow metal heads, organizers and bands from this city. Whenever i am asked about the Nepalese Underground scene i usually give an example of Hetauda of how metal lovers gave re-birth to the scene which was almost dead.

From the organizers regarding Slaughter House Death Fest
Slaughter House Death  Fest’s 1st edition happened in 2013 with only a prime motive to spread the wave of Death Metal as here in Hetauda we have massive Extreme Metal following (esp. Death Metal) . In the 1st sequel we featured bands like Bidroha, Dying Out Flame from Nepal and bands like OV, Imperal Cult, Malvolent Bloodshed from India played here in Hetauda. We are doing this gig Near Dashai the biggest festival celebrated in Nepal. We are trying to make Slaughter house death fest as a Death metal festival here in Hetauda. We are very happy that in this 2nd edition we are able to bring the Legendary Death Metal Pioneers of Nepal to Play in this gig. We are really happy to say that they will terrorize Hetauda with their music. We also urge the entire metal heads from Nearby cities to witness this Mayhem.. See you guys moshing on the pit this  Saturday.. That's all what we want to say.

The bands are

X-Mantra
Think of the loyals of metal music in Nepal and you’ll think of young boys and some adult men banging their heads with metal heavyweights like Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Sepultura in the year 2000. And think about the first metal band's of Nepal and you’ll surely think about Ugrakarma, Suside theory and Ugrakarma and only X- MANTRA. They have already gained a solid cult following in the valley and their music and their influences have also made quite an impact on other major cities of Nepal.
Their first album made quite good impact on the Nepali metal scene. Now with so much to look forward to and new metal bands emerging from the call of the metal pioneers, Nepali music (metal, in fact) can start anew itself.
X-MANTRA comprises of Rojesh Shrestha on vocals, Sandeep Tuladhar on lead guitars,Ritesh Shrestha on the bass guitar, Nabin Maharjan on guitar and Bikram Shrestha on the drums.
Their first single "Shaleek" was featured in Music Isles Compilation, which became one of the most recognized songs in the concerts. Shortly after that compilation, the band released their debut album "Crying For Peace". till date band released 5 albums in the scene, 10 official music videos. The only mainstream metal band constantly active since 2000

Divine Influence
They are one of the young killer bands from the Nepalese Underground Scene. Started as a Lamb of Gods cover band they have won hearts of Nepalese Metal heads and recently they launched an E.P Scarecrow which was a massive success. Here is a short interview that we had with their frontman Aman.

Apart from these 3 bands track one more track will be featured. From this split we are trying to seek and expose hidden young talents from different places of Nepal who haven't got proper exposure and featuring them with professional bands. In this 1st volume of the split, we are featuring some talented musicians from Nepal College if Management. These guys were only limited in college programs and are involved in some local bands who haven't got proper exposure yet.

Interview with France based Brutal Death Metal Band Devour the Fetus's frontman Renan

Formed in August 2011, the real band activity started in February 2012. The band has been offered the opportunity to play a gig, provided that they could write enough songs to last 30 minutes on stage. The challenge was fulfilled and the band continued on their pace. They recorded their 3-tracks-EP “Babynception” in 2012 and they composed enough song to record an album in July 2013 : “Cook’n’Roll”. The band will soon be working for their new release. To know much about the band. you can check them out in

https://www.facebook.com/devourthefetus
http://www.devourthefetus.com/

Greetings Renan before we start we would like to know about the updates of the French underground scene?
Hey, the French underground scene is really active, even we don't have lot of big bands, we have awesome bands. The actual brutal scene, for me, is represented by Ad Patres, Darkall Slaves, Disgraseed, most grind but very nice too by Unsu, Department of correction and of course Benighted, Inhumate, Blockheads, and Kronos (they came back \m/). These actors are really brutal and active. Bands are cool but shows too, these last years we have increasingly festivals, Hellfest and Motocultor fest show us how to do! So underground scene is growing up in France, it's really nice!

Good to know about that. Devouring the fetus, how did the journey start tell us about it?
With Zyigh (guitarist) we spoke about foods and music, after one night to speak about cooking and delicious recipes, i ask : "let's start a breeetalll band", he answered to me : "no", and two days after, he called me back to say "yes", thus Devour The Fetus was born !

So if i am not wrong you guys played in the French death fest on the last day how is the rehersal going for the fest.
It's a German fest. It was really cool. Rehearsal were great and we had a mini tour with katalepsy before (4 shows), so we were ready to breeeee !

We hope to hear more about your upcoming gig. Talking about Devour the fetus Maternal Cheese cake, Putrefying Tumor Placentomized, Anti - wrinkle fetus cream are some of your tracks that i tune quite often Renan we would like to know if any new stuffs in production?
For now we have 2 new songs, most groovy and brutal. We are working for the next album and we are really exciting to play it on stage!

Hoping to hear about your new tour dates, coming beyond Devour the fetus tell us how did your journey begin?
My first cd was "Roots" from Sepultura. There is 15 years ago (already haha). After that i went deeper in brutality with Marduk / Cannibal Corpse, and after Krisiun, Deicide and lot of brutal bands. few year after i discovered Devourment / Origin and my future was obvious. I was on earth to breeeeeee That my entry in the metal world. I played in a band, called Absinthebolik, death / black metal, we split out there is three years ago and i created Devour The Fetus to be more brutal and groovy, as bands is listened.

You guys are from the country which has a healthy metal scene, is it possible for band to sustain their life through music especially metal?
No way to live with your music (metal) in France. Only few bands can do it, like Gojira, Loudblast and others big bands (or i don't know). If you want money, stop to play metal and play pop music or other kind of mainstream stuff. We play because we love it. As we say, we don't win money we try to lose as less as possible !

Well that’s for sure metal for passion. So Renan any message to the fans?
Thanks for your support, thanks to follow us, keeping sharing and keeping going at shows, it is through this that we can exist \m/ Cheers, breeeee and eat onions !

So it is a bit off track question Renan we would like to know what do you guys do apart from Devour the fetus.
Virgile (drummer) and me are web developer, and Virgile do something more, but i never know what haha, Frankette (bass) studied robotic engineering, Cyril (guitar) the sound engineering and Zyigh (guitarist) is a cook ! At least one work with onions and carrots, but i'm not sure with fetus. I love to cook too but only for me and friends, it's not my work.

Haha i think i must meet Zyigh then i am always hungry. Well jokes apart coming back to the band recently a review of your album Cook 'n Roll was done by Sick reviews and reviewed it with 8 out of 10 i am quite sure this review has increase your moral and to come with much sick albums in coming future.
Of course, come on France, we will cook for you (trust us it's ever good if you like fet...) haha. We have few reviews for now; from Sick review and some others French web zines (thrashcore, metal nightfall...). All reviews we had are good; it's really cool to have good feedback's. It means we are on the good way, and we must to keep going more brutal and groovy. We are hurry to release the next full length (some songs are already composed). But for now we are focus to the promotion of "Cook'n Roll”!

So by when can we expect the new album of Devour the fetus?
At the end of 2015 or early 2016 i guess and hope!

Almost at the end now tell us on your view the French bands that are to be heard apart from Devour the fetus?
We have lot of good bands! I think to our bros from Darkall Slaves, Disgraseed, Whisper Of Death, Ad Patres, Flying Shit Machine and some more famous as Benighted, Kronos. Our scene rocks but deserve to be most famous!

So this is the last question for you Renan. Anything that we  SNRMB team has forgotten to ask you, you  can ask us here?
Mmhhh, no fetus was harmed during the recording of the album. Haha

Hahaha Thank you Renan for your time.
Thx you for your support!

Interview with Leighton from South Africa based Black Metal Band Formless Devotion

Before we begin Leighton we would like to know how things are going back there in South Africa.
Hey, Things are going well over here, in general.

Well starting our talk regarding the band tell us something about Formless Devotion?
Formless Devotion started as a side project of myself and Orlok(Throne Below) in August 2013. The project focuses on the spiritual pursuit of apotheosis through the Draconian current.

Formless Devotion is a black metal band recently i tuned your track Spark of Separation from your upcoming EP loved the track. Can you tell us something about the upcoming EP to be released on Cyclopean Eye Productions.
Yes the EP will be released in the coming months. I am currently working on the album art and booklet. We are much honored o be under the banner of Cyclopean Eye Productions.

Can you say us in much detail about the E.P?
It consists of 4 tracks including an intro and outro. The EP deals with the progression of the subconscious mind through the attainment of death.
Death of the lesser self and the conditioned perception of this world, universe.

As far as i know you guys have released 3 more tracks. Apart from Spark of Seperation you guys have launched Aeonik Devotion, Illuminate My Temple and Prana Of The Drakon are these the tracks to be released in the EP?
Yes, that is correct. All of the tracks are available for streaming.

Coming beyond Formless Devotion tell us about the South African scene?
The South African scene is not too good to be honest. It is completely focused on metalcore, deathcore, djent... Things I really don't care for. There are a few bands producing decent work. Bands like Overthrust from Botswana, Blackcrowned from Cape town/UK, to name a few. The promoters are doing good work though. There's a Behemoth tour coming up in November.

Cool man Behemoth toured here last November headlining Silence Festival. So Leighton coming to your journey, Tell us how your journey began?
I started listening to rock at the age of 13. I started discovering extreme metal bands 2 years later and it has progressed ever since. My musical journey started in 2008 when I formed my solo project, Forestmist. I've been composing ever since. It was through Myspace that I first got acquainted with Brent(Orlok). We started our solo projects in the same year and we've been in contact ever since. Being from opposite ends of the country, we met for the first time last year and initially followed through with Formless Devotion. I have been composing a debut full-length for Forestmist since 2012. The composition/mixing and mastering process has come to and end a few months ago. Now we will be focusing on a concept for a Formless Devotion full-length and working towards finishing up some other projects that I'm currently busy with.

So it means Formless Devotion haven't played live until now.
We are not a live band, we are a duo.

So we are almost at the end now any message to the bands and metalheads who are keen to hear and know about you guys?
You can message and follow our updates on Facebook and Reverbnation. The support is much appreciated.

Lastly a space for you to ask if we SNRMB team has forgotten to ask you can ask us here?
I'll just add that I'm doing guitars, lyrics and vocals. Orlok does guitars, bass and programming

Thank you Leighton for your time
It’s been a pleasure. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me.Here you go our band page link for Formless Devotion:

Interview with Jonas Stålhammar from God Macabre

God Macabre was one of the first death metal bands in Sweden. The band formed in the end of the 80's under the name Macabre End. In 1991 they changed their name to God Macabre and released one song for the Pantalgia compilation and an album through the small German label Mangled Beyond Recognition Records before splitting up. In the year 2002 the album was remastered, remixed and re-released through the American Relapse Records.
TO get the bands update :-

The Winterlong' Available Now via Relapse Records | Purchase:http://bit.ly/GodMacabre

Before we begin we would like to know how was your experience at Maryland Death Fest?
MDF was really killer this year! Can't say I’m disappointed with anything. Great people, great atmosphere, cool venues and we did a great show. Will play there again any day
We would love to hear you guys again. God Macabre how has the journey been so far. As far as i know you joined the band later. Tell us how the journey was?
Well, the initial journey for the band wasn't that long. First formed in 1988 under a different name and changed to Macabre End in 1989. I joined the band in early 1990. Then we did our first demo and then changed name again in 1991 to God Macabre, recorded our album in late 1991 to split up in March 1992.

The bands initial days i.e 1998-1989 the band was named Botten Pa Burken , 1989-1991 as Macabre End and later in 1991 as God Macabre . What does the band name mean. Tell us about it?
Yeah, 1988-89 it was BPB which means Botten på Burken (Bottom of the jar in English). The style was more punk/grindcore then, in 1989-1991 as Macabre End and the final 10 months or so as God Macabre. That name came from a song I wrote with my old band Abhoth. It fitted the newer more dark lyrics better

Actually i was about to ask you the question regarding why you guys switched your genre from Punk/Grindcore to Death Metal. Also why was the band inactive for almost 21 years?
The switch to death metal came because that's what we wanted to play. As simple as that. The inactivity was because we split up the band back in 1992 mainly because we couldn't find a suitable drummer and bass player. But, i have to point out that we are not recording a new album now! We will do shows this year and then we'll see if we will continue with that in the future. We are all busy with our other bands you know

Well going beyond God Macabre Jonas tell us how your journey in Metal music begin?
Well, got into hardrock like Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Kiss and Black Sabbath back in the late 70's when I was a kid which later progressed with stuff like Motörhead, Venom, Voivod, Slayer, Metallica, Bathory, Celtic Frost and a lot if hardcore/punk stuff which then led me to the tape trading death metal scene around 1987.

Coming back to the band September 1990 a demo CONSUMED BY DARKNESS was released. 3years later after the band split up the debut album The Winterlong was released consisting of 7 tracks out of which two were instrumental tracks. The album was re-released in 19th Feb 2002 including 3 tracks. In 2008 Relapse Version of the album was released on Vinyl for 1st time by the Swedish Label Bloodharvest Record. Again in June 10 the album is re-released by Relapse. A bit curious how excited are you guys about the re-release?
Always, was excited about re-releasing "The Winterlong". Relapses are doing a great job promoting it

Well we can see that in various social media and as well as Relapse website as well. By the way tell us how was the response of fans when you guys decided to re-unite after 21 years?
The response has been amazing so far. It's very cool to able to play the album live now for fans in so many different places around the world.

Any tour updates after the re-release?
No new dates added so far

I was having a short talk with one of my cousins he witnessed you guys recently in MDF . He is one of the die hard fan of God Macabre he has requested me to ask you this question. Will there be a studio version of the live album Eve Of Souls Forsaken?
Well, all those songs, except the Carnage cover, are already available in studio versions on the album.

For sure, i will convey him the message. So Jonas, any message to the bands from Nepal and other parts of the world as well as the fans?
Just do what you believe in and try not to follow trends to much. Thank you very much for the support during these re-union days and beyond. "The Winterlong" is out once again on Relapse records
And also check out our other bands Bombs of Hades, Mordbrand, Space Probe Taurus and Torture Division

I am pretty sure that they will follow God Macabre's families other projects as well. Lastly a space for you to ask if we SNRMB team have forgotten to ask. Feel free to ask. Space all yours
Thanks for the interview and for the support!!
