Broken Hymens Front man Utsav Shrestha Interview

Many bands have came and gone but we Entire Snrmb team has been observing this band from there 1st event i.e Brutal Lunch Box Vol 1. In the period of around 15 months the band has faced many ups and down And now the band is dismantled . The main shock was when there Guitarist Aditya Shakya met with an Serious accident and was paralyzed in the lower part of his body. Currently he is undergoing treatment in China and is undergoing Treatment and things are going positive.
We Snrmb Family Wish him a Quick heal And see him have a normal life like before.

So If you avent checked this band then here is there facebook page..

So bruh when did the band start?

I really don’t know when the band was started coz it was a long time back and we used to play mostly classic rock, punk and grunge covers. We played a lot of gigs as a cover band with the name broken hymen but we started playing death metal at around June of 2012.

So in terms of metal which was your first gig ?

Brutal lunch box vol.1, it was with the original line up with me subodh, aditya and shaquille. When we played gigs as a cover band before this our good friend akash shrestha would fill in from time to time making the the blb 1 line up the first and official.

Talking about the band’s name how did the name Broken Hymen came?

I am a big fan of nirvana, so it’s from a line of the song heart shaped box from their in utero album.

Ah... Utsav i wanna ask you how were your journey from Brutal Lunch Box until your Ep launch "SHROUDED BY DEATH" how was your journey of 11 month?

We actually released shrouded by death after a year since we started. 13months i guess. Its been awsome man, we didnt know we would reach this far. Nobody knew us but Jamsthan was the place it all started. Vishal Rai kinda walked into our jam session and he liked it, so the next day he says he wants us to play the day after at blb vol.1. After that we participated in nepfest 3, finished 6th. since blb vol.1 vishal da has been the only guy who supported us and stil is. then we came up with the demo during november i guess, we played with ugra karma, binaash and soul annihialation in the departure from the path of illusions gig which was part of ugra karma's grinding the himalayas tour. We were at a level no one could bring us down except us and that's what happened. Aditya had a really bad accident with his spine broken literally into small pieces. we could have replaced him but we started off this band as kids with dreams of doing something big and something different and we couldnt do it without him so we waited until he could actually sit upright without any support which took about 7 months. after that i convinced him to play this gig on a wheel chair. abd you've got to give this guy credit, he trained himself to play exactly like he used to. he showed his will. besides him everyone in the band deserves the same amont of credit that he does, the dedication of other members to make him know that everything's gonna go just fine. ashim khanal formerly of unholy sickdom joined the band just before the gig to help us and help aditya. the second song on the ep butchered corpse metamorphosis was mostly written by ashim. where as before aditya was the sole songwiter in the band. in 5 days we wrote 2 new songs coz we thought it would take less time than doing the old ones. we played blb vol.2 everybody liked our last performace, and it was really cool. after 5 days of the gig we went inside the studio and recorded the two songs as aditya was rushed to china just the next day. That's that and we sold the cds in the middle of basantapur! which was also a huge success and everybody loved the cd.

Yep the EP was in fact a success and from our side we salute Aditya for playing in BLB VOL2 with such difficulties. But one thing that strike all of us is that after "SHROUDED BY DEATH" EP Launch the band is official closed. Is there possibility that the band will reform in near future?

Maybe, there is always a may be there haha... who knows, but i guess we've done our share to help the other bands form a scene coz its been more than a decade no scene in Nepal, lets see what happens, but i hope we get back and by that time aditya will walk and jump around stage

Haha ok Utsav since Broken Hymen is a Blakened Death Metal band can you tell about this gerne?

I cant really say we play blackened death metal, but all the other guys did so we thought we'd actually learn about it and do it, u can hear it in our demo and demo alone, we stopped playing that after our orignal drummer subodh quit. well blackened death is a genre compromising of mostly black metal influences with growls and shrieks, we've always had a little bit of black metal in all of our songs but we cant really call us a proper BDM band but people said we played it so we just went along with it wasnt intentional at it, we improvise with melodies in our songs so may be that confused people.

So what gerne you consider Broken Hymen and can you tell who are your influence?

Broken hymen is just death metal, with other stuff flying here and there. i cant really say much about the influences coz every one has a different set of bands they look up to but slayer cannibal corpse ugra karma binaash and origin are the bands u know we all draw influence from.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cF20qei-Adw

Ok now we want to ask you regarding our local organizers?

They suck! that's it i cant say anything u know except silence and nepfest the others just suck. i remember a time where battle of the bands were something taken really seriously after nepfest 3 i guess there were so many of these bands didnt even sign up. its a disgrace when u do it for the money.

Did any experience in life reflect on your music?

Well dint have a great time growing up as a child, music was the raputical but i have never conveyed any one these things through my lyrics in broken hymen but yeah those experiences made me love rock and metal music and wanted to do it from a very young age

How would you define the ups and down an artist has to face especially trying to bring out a gerne like metal which our society considers a pain to the ears?

When u decide to play metal, u shud know its an uphill battle. Most of the people play this kinda music because for the love of it and the others do it to be cool. Nepal is the only fucking country where kids play and listen to metal to be cool. Its for the wierd kids and i think it should stay that

Haha Apart from Broken Hymen which band do you think will come up on the metal delay?

Definitely dying out flame, my really good friends they're gonna be the next big thing

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fX40yqRMXTw

Yep for sure they are, in my view they are the big giants cause this band have have drastically made huge improvement in just a year of ignition..

Yeah they have, at the begining they didnt sound like this at all

Yeah thats for sure. Utsav after gigs in facebook event page as well as during the event, sometime we see clash among musicians and sound crew so what’s your view on that??

We never had a problem like that so i cant say anything on that

Well we are almost at the end . Any message to the fans organizers and the scene related people?

Fuck yourselves you motherfuckers! that's all

Haha thanx man for such a wonderful chit..

Sure man. No problem

This tour will be the epic one in Nepal ever, even though there are no foreign bands included in the tour. And this tour is going to give many talented bands an opportunity to share stages with some good bands..kati foreign band haru le matrai tour garyos, Nepal le pani garera dekhaunu parcha..There are lots of bands which are going through hard times ..and as we all know, it's not easy for a band to play, or create co-ordination while rehersal.. It's just all about the hard works of bands, now let's move to the topic "Extreme Tour Nepal 2013".. First of all, we supporters should thank all the people who let this happen..Really, Vishal dai from Wakk Thuu is really supportive towards to extreme underground scene out here..and we are having some good times in the scene because of him.. "Brutal Pokhara, htdROCKS, EUMSN (Extreme Underground Metal Society Of Nepal)", these are the massive community which are supporting this tour, and i know these acts are going to reach at the highest level someday.. Nepal ma pani scene badhaunu parcha, with some real supports..So, i hope there will be a sick crowd in all the league.. Cheers for EXTREME UNDERGROUND METAL SOCIETY OF NEPAL !!

ramailo hunchha ni...... nepali underground scene ko sabai bhanda thulo tour hundaichha..... yo bhanda aru k thulo hunchha ra .......

We musicians feel proud that finally we are getting to see some changes in nepal metal scene. And we believe these events will encourage emerging musicians and make them more comfortable on giving their best efforts in music... ( There is a gr8 future for nepali metal genre)
And I would like to congrats Eumsn for their best efforts on uplifting and providing better platform for nepali metal bands and encourage them...

its gr8 idea...nd if u need any kind of support then u can tell nd i,m 2 excited !!!

Havn't heaed much of a nepali brutal tour rather than Extreme Tour Nepal 2013 organized by our friends Eumsn Bones. The line up is great, tour venue absolute heaven for metalheads, Its good to see metal bands going tour, supporting each other.

 Hell Rain From Nepal \m/

hamilee hamro nepali saskirti lai jogaunu parcha and our sanskriti if pure fucking metal \m/

EUMSN is one of the group that has been truly working to promote the local scene and bands. Extreme Tour is their another effort and appreciation worthy. Extreme Tour won't be about big bands headlining the show, flashy lights & stage but will be about supporting the local bands. I'm sure these bands won't disappoint you.
