How did the concept of Brutal Pokhara started?
It just started out of boredom. There were enough Metal shits pages around on facebook and I just wanted to add one more. I never had an intention to take it to this far.
Apart From Concert what are the activity you guyz are doing for scene Enlistment of Scene in Pokhara?
Gigs are all we can and want to do. It doesn’t matter how good you are on records or in papers or in your fb or other pages over the internet, you are a shit band if you don’t nail your live shows. And yes apart from concerts we do support bands not just from Pokhara but from every other places of the world with our facebook page and our blog.
We have done plenty of album reviews of bands from all part of the world (we thank them for sending us their stuffs) and have done lots of interviews from deserving local bands to some of the biggest name in Metal. We also help bands with their press releases and everything that we think that people should know about that particular band.
We have worked with 100s of bands (this include concerts, reviews, interviews, online compilations etc) and we are proud of what we have done till now.
What do you want to comment regarding the current situation of the scene there in Pokhara as well as around our country?
It a small scene here in Pokhara and quite honestly the whole Nepali scene is small too but we have some quality bands here (Pokhara) that are doing jaw dropping hell of a good job.
Gradually kids are attending shows compare to very low-key turnout that used to be may be a year ago. The crowds are on track supporting local bands which I consider is a very big factor for any scene to breed.
But if we have to talk about the whole scene that I would say we are still not up there compare to the scene in India. I hate to compare but sometime you gotta do it to see where you stand. The fault is not that we don’t have the talent (I have always believed that we have equally good if not better bands here compare to other bands in the sub continent) but we really don’t have that medium that truly supports and exposes that talent. This is the sole reason our bands are not playing outside the country. No promoters give shit about Nepalese bands despite being better than most of the bands that they have or are working with. This sucks but is true. Only a handful of bands like Narsamhaar, Wakk Thuu, Bidroha and very few others based on personal relations have been able to cross the border which is a utter shame considering the good talent that we have whereas bands from outside comes here and pay at the biggest shows/platform. We need more unbiased media that truly supports and promotes the worthy bands.
So in july you guyz are having an event let us know about he event?
The event is called DISHARMONY. This is the 4th installment of the franchise and this time the show will be with some of the best live acts of Nepal. Our friends at Shannon ‘The Badass’ Scam are celebrating their 10th year anniversary at this show which makes the show extra special. It’s not a joke for a band in Nepal to exist this long. The other bands that make the show heavier are bands like NARSAMHAAR, known for their tightness and brutal presence on stage, there is DYING OUT FLAME, Nepal’s first Vedic Metal band and I am pretty sure that they will annihilate Pokhara.
KAAL is one such band that I rate very highly. They will make you cum on stage if Slam/Brutal Death Metal arouses you sexually and yeah then there is MAHADEV, a very promising and tight aggressive Rock outfit that amazed us and everyone with their debut show at one of our event called ‘Lake City Madness’.
So we see that there are may problems for the organizers regarding bands complaining about payment and sounds and some hazzards with government officials regarding security would you like to comment on it?
It’s hard to have a perfect show but we always try to make our show better in terms of sound and the quality bands. This is an irony but we have to do shows with very limited budgets so we cannot do all we want to. We hate this but most of the time people here overwhelm us and really support us with an amazing spirit.
As for cops here, they haven’t messed up much with us so far but despite this generosity that they have shown towards us we still hate them. How about violently moshing on cops this DISHARMONY?
We wanna knw how was it then when you started Brutal Pokhara and now how do you see it turning back?
Like I mentioned I started Brutal Pokhara out of boredom so nothing much was planned so anything that it had turned out into now is only a kind of achievement. Since nothing was planned there were no goals or hopes and no expectations. It’s great to see that people in and outside Nepal are appreciating the works we are doing. I get plenty of emails from bands and other metal blogs from around the world appreciating our works and that means a lot for me/us.
We have always worked being very close to bands. When we started doing shows in Pokhara there were very few bands and sorrowfully most of them used to play just for the sake of showing off and it used to piss me off because when you get a chance don’t take it for granted but this has changed a bit these days. Bands work hard before they come on stage and really know that stage is the place where people are seeing and judging them.
Brutal Pokhara will always support genuine and hardworking bands. We have done it in the past and we will do it till this group last.
Any messages to the fans and viewers reading this article?
Come to DISHARMONY this July 6th. We’ll grab some beer and mosh together and hopefully we will announce our next event soon.
We want more shows to happen in all places of Nepal. I’ve seen people complaining that there are no organizers and sponsors in their place so they can’t have a show. This is such a pussy excuse. Do shows in your toilet, in bedroom or in your jam hall with your friends. You don’t need to spend much. Do it with whatever you have. One has to born in order to grow. Do it yourself because no one will do it for you. Build your own scene.
No need to worry fellaws the gig will happen and we are pretty much sure that the gig will be a success without them too.
