Old Castles Massacre an aspiring Sri Lankan Death Metal band

Tell us something about Old Castles Massacre?

Old castle's massacre formed in late 2002 by vocalist Shalinda Perera and drummer Chathuranga Hewa Bandula.. The name is given by Chathuranga and the logo design by shalinda.. We started playing in the city of kandy and we are the 1st brutal death metal band in Sri Lanka..

2002 until now how was the journey?

Its been a long and hard journey cause at that time the metal scene in Sri Lanka is very little, specially in death metal scene. After we started playing alone with brother bands like 'Siblings Of Hatred'(black metal), 'Forlorn Hope'(black metal) things start to grow..

Can you tell us about the scene their in Sri Lanka?

Scene in the Sri Lanka is really good when we compare it like a decade back when we started back, the scene has really improved for last couple of years, n there are lot of bands do produce real good music.

We will like to know how did the Name Old Castles Massacre came?

It's just something that came to my mind all of a sudden from no where, may be it's Satan..ha ha ha... But it depicts the horror, brutality & Power!!!!

Almost 12 years of journey. How has the journey been? Can you tell us the bitter experience you guys faced putting off a Metal band which society considers pain in the ears?

Hmm its been long a hard journey but it was fun talking about the society we just played our music ONLY to the people who listen to metal, NOT for everyone.. because of that we use to play underground and not in the commercial scene, we had problems with doing shows because of the loud music and all but somehow we and rest of the srilankan underground metal bands manage to do that pretty good...Now we have few very good metal bands in the scene and diehard sick metal heads and we are very happy about it....

Since we are not much aware about the Sri lankan metal scene can you tell us much about the scene there in Sri Lanka?

Looking back when we started and last few years the metal scene is really improved, specially black and death metal.. We have really good bands such as Funeral in heaven, Dhishti ,Plecto Aliquem Capite, Genocide Shrines, Fallen grace, Destroy, Discard, Pariah Demise .etc... Majority of underground metalheads in Sri Lanka are fans of black and death metal...

So guys can you tell us how many albums have you guys launched so far?

At the moment we only released two EP's and few singles. Because all these years we are all about playing live... We are working on our debut album these days and hopefully this year we are going to release it...

Well we wish you all best of luck for that. Regarding the gigs , recently you guys cancelled to play in NDF can you tell us regarding that?

Well thank you very much for this interview.. Unfortunately due to unavoidable circumstances we had to cancel the gig but we are looking forward to come to nepal very soon. Because Old Castles Massacre loves Nepal and we are so happy to play for sick metal dudes.. We promise we're going to come their soon and lets do some killing!!!... Till then stay sick as possible!!!!..

Disgorge (US) , (old) Decrepit Birth, Suffocation,Defeated sanity, Putridity, Devourment, Cannibal Corpse and Six Feet Under...

Can we consider OCM as a Brutal Death Metal Band?

Yes..Definitely...

So can you tell us about your bands dream lineup with whom you all want to share stage?

That bands we influenced from.. Specially Disgorge and Defeated Sanity.... and oh i missed Malignancy...

Maligancy is a killer one. Ok guys we will like to ask does incident in real life affects on the music you guys create?

Our music is all about the dark side of life. There are so many things in our world and society that most people don't want to talk about people ignore it.. And we are talking abut that stuff through art.. Such as pedophilia, cannibalism,necrophilia, sadism.etc.. Life is cruel, except that...

Woah these are some real killer stuff. We will like to know apart from Old Castles Massacre, which band do you think will rise in the long run?

That would be Disgorge(us)... that's our favorite band...

So any message to the fans reading this chit?

If you're really in to BDM and if you willing to form a band in the future, do it for real.. Please don't mix brutal death with metalcore or some other 'core' bullshit.. Do it for real, it should feel in your gut.. Listen to good stuff and create good stuff...
